San Jose maternity and childbirth services

For more than 50 years, Good Samaritan Hospital has helped prepare parents for their baby's arrival in a safe and nurturing environment.

With skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in, we support the bonding experience between mom and baby during the first hour after birth. Our services include access to lactation consultants and breastfeeding education to support breastfeeding and healthy bonding between mother and baby if you choose to and are medically able.

We are strong supporters of patient education and offer a variety of classes, support groups, and tours to help women and their families prepare for pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

High-risk pregnancy care

We provide comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies in the Bay Area. A pregnancy may be considered high-risk for many reasons, including existing health conditions, maternal age, lifestyle, multiple pregnancies, and health issues that happen before or during pregnancy, such as diabetes, pre-eclampsia and hypertension.

We are committed to keeping mom and baby as healthy as possible. Our services include prenatal care and diagnosis, comprehensive assessment and treatment of pregnancy, maternal, and fetal disease, diabetes education and nutrition counseling. Additionally, our services include a perinatal navigator. This dedicated nurse helps coordinate care and provides specialized support to pregnant women identified as high-risk before, during, and after delivery.

Should hospitalization be required prior to or after delivery, we have a dedicated 11-bed antepartum unit that provides specialized care for women who need bed rest and close monitoring. After delivery, high-risk newborns are cared for by the specialty staff at our NICU.

Labor and delivery rooms

We offer 16 spacious birthing rooms for labor and delivery. Each private room provides a home-like setting with everything needed for a safe and comfortable experience, including a full bathroom with a jetted tub, birthing balls, and Wi-Fi. Rooms include sleeping accommodations for a support person, and wireless fetal monitoring makes it possible to move freely during labor. After delivery, recovery takes place in our mother-baby suites for the remainder of your stay.

Maternity classes and hospital tours

Our hospital offers maternity classes and support groups to help expectant parents prepare for life with their newborn. Experienced educators teach classes committed to newborn education and cover topics such as childbirth, baby care basics, breastfeeding, infant and child CPR, and car safety. Some of our classes are taught online via live stream in collaboration with Birthly.

If you have additional questions or concerns about breastfeeding once discharged from the hospital, we provide access to virtual breastfeeding consultations from international board-certified specialists through our partnership with Nest Collaborative.

We also provide in-person tours of our center so that you can get familiar with our facility and view our hospital amenities in our labor and delivery rooms and mother-baby suites.
