Medicaid Coverage and Redetermination

If you have health insurance coverage through your state's Medicaid program, please be aware that requirements are changing soon.

In 2020, the federal government stopped requiring the annual Medicaid redetermination process in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, state Medicaid agencies have continued to pause this process.

Beginning in April 2023, most states will begin the Medicaid redetermination process again, so you will need to re-apply and receive approval to continue Medicaid coverage.

If you rely on Medicaid today, now is the time to get ready for this change:

• Confirm your contact information (mailing address and phone number) with your state agency to make sure you receive important communication about the changes and application process
• Respond to all Medicaid-issued notices about renewal and provide any requested documentation to verify eligibility

If you or your spouse has had a change in employment status, you may be able to sign up for an employer-sponsored health insurance plan through your job or your spouse's job. Check with the employer's human resources department for more information. You also may purchase a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
