Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Santa Clara County’s First Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center

The pulmonary rehabilitation program at Good Samaritan Hospital helps patients learn about proper breathing techniques, pulmonary relaxation, and strengthening exercises, as well as early recognition of respiratory infection. It is vital that patients with lung ailments be enrolled in a pulmonary program as early in their illness as possible. Early detection and treatment of pulmonary problems can lead to better outcomes and improved quality of life for patients by reducing the negative impact that comes with the advanced stages of pulmonary disease.

We Take a Team Approach

The team includes physical therapist and occupational therapist. This team approach allows us to tailor the classes to meet the individual needs that may vary from group to group.

We teach about breathing techniques, exercise, energy conservation, oxygen use, diet, and medications.

Occupational therapists focus on teaching how to most efficiently move your body while performing daily tasks to best conserve energy and get the job done. Physical therapists can help you get the most out of reconditioning muscles in the shortest possible time.

We provide an effective eight-week pulmonary program of two two-hour sessions weekly to improve pulmonary function and build stamina. Patients exercise at the appropriate level and receive a customized home exercise plan, along with the education needed to best manage their disease.
